I think it is a must see if you are in washington dc around christmas time. If you come in at the other end your walk will be all uphill. Unlike holiday light displays at zoos in other cities zoolights is free. However they had lights showing all kinds of different animals.

The zoo is accessible via the red line to the woodley park zoo or cleveland park metro station. More than half a million lights are used to transform the national zoo into a magical holiday light. Best suggestion we received was to start up at connecticut ave and walk downhill through the zoo. The light display lines the main path at the zoo which is about a mile long.

Most of the park was closed off and most of the animals were not visible. But basically zoolights was a way to show off the animals while they were sleeping. The zoo entrance lies halfway between these stops and both are a short walk from the zoo. A nonstop dc circulator bus will operate between woodley park metro station and the zoo s entrance fridays saturdays and sundays.

Zoo lights was just amazing. As fitting its location most of the lights are animals that can be found in the national zoo.
